The Fault in Our Stars

What's the verdict on The Fault in Our Stars?

I've actually read this book TWICE. Once back in the day - like 10 years ago - and once again more recently. If you've seen the film, then chances are you'll enjoy this, and if you haven't, then now's your chance to read it then watch it!

It's essentially the story of Hazel, a teenager who falls in love with a dude called Augustus. But, they both have cancer.

It's one of those books that kinda stops you in your tracks a little and really makes you appreciate things. I do enjoy books that make you question your perspective slightly, and this is certainly one that's great for that.

It's also incredibly easy to read as I'm guessing this would be considered a "young adult" book? Either way, I'm not a fan of small font and long chapters, so this easily ticks those boxes.

I'll always keep the line "...slowly, and then all at once” in my head after reading this too. I've cut the start off as technically I guess it's a bit of a spoiler. But I get reminded of that line quite a lot. I see it in things like the dogs - our eldest, Elsie, is coming up on 12 years old and she still seems as bright and energetic at times as a puppy. But that line still sits with me, only this time in death.

I know it'll happen slowly, and then all at once. Everything is normal and fine until it isn't. Your health can move incredibly slowly in a negative direction and then, almost as if all at once, it drops off. Such is life.
