Under the Whispering Door

What's the verdict on Under the Whispering Door?

I'll hold my hands up and say I haven't finished this one just yet. I have around 100 pages to go, so I can't give you a full breakdown of my thoughts on the whole thing. But I will say that I'm enjoying it a lot so far.

My only criticism so far - and this is entirely personal - is that the font is a bit small which then makes the book feel like a heavier read.

The actual content itself has been great!

The story follows this dude called Wallace, who's basically a bit of a bellend. One of those nightmare-ish bosses who's obsessed with work and doesn't really care that much for people. He's a little bit "Scrooge" like, but unlike Scrooge, he doesn't get a chance at redemption BEFORE he dies, he literally just dies.

Fear not, that's hardly a spoiler when the front of the book says "His death was their beginning."

He then gets picked up by a reaper who takes him to this tea shop run by this "ferryman" called Hugo. It's essentially a place where people go to "cross over" when they're ready to do so.

Honestly, as for plot, there's not a whole lot of stuff going on. It's more about reading these characters interact and develop as the book goes on, rather than unravel some mystery or have action-packed events happen.

I'm really interested to see how the rest of this plays out, and I should probably come back and edit this once I'm finished!
